My refrigerator decided it was time to take a break and stop being cold… Urgh! I called Wrench Box based on their reviews which were good. I was incredibly happy that the reviews were 100% spot on! Does living near the ocean really affect my appliances?
Yes, measurably. Salt in the air corrodes refrigerator condenser coils, attacks exposed metal, and works into electrical connections and control boards over the years. Coastal appliances genuinely tend to fail earlier than identical units inland, particularly refrigerators and anything kept in a garage or lanai.
My garage refrigerator keeps failing. Why?
Garage units get hit twice: salt air plus wide temperature swings. Many refrigerators are not rated to run reliably in an unconditioned garage in Florida heat, and the compressor works far harder than it was designed to. We can tell you whether the unit is failing or simply badly located.

Can coil corrosion be repaired, or is the fridge finished?
It depends how far it has gone. Surface corrosion can often be cleaned and treated. A coil that has actually perforated and is leaking refrigerant needs sealed-system repair, which we can do, being EPA certified, where many companies would simply tell you to buy a new refrigerator.
Is there anything I can do to make coastal appliances last?
Keeping condenser coils clean makes a real difference, as does rinsing salt residue off exterior surfaces and avoiding putting a refrigerator in an unconditioned garage where you have the choice. We are happy to point out what is worth doing when we are on site.
